The Ruwenzori mountains are located on the border between Uganda (the Rwenzori Mountains National Park) and the democratic republic of Congo ( Virunga National Park).

A hiking expedition can be booked any time of the year. Hiking may be tough especially for those climbing the high peaks of the mountain. At the lower levels of the glaciers these are melting and chasing faster than in the past probably due to climate change.
The mountain can be visited in the good months of December, January, February, June, July, august and September. During these months its always easy to walk through the trails which are drier compared to the wet months when the vegetation is not fully grown which make siting of gorillas easy. The other months which are slightly wet in March, April, may, October, and November most travellers avoid visiting gorillas because the vegetation is fully and the trails are slippery making tracking harder.

The Rwenzori Mountains are a home to 70 mammals like Rwenzori otter, giant forest hog, bush bucks, Angola colobus monkeys, chimpanzees etc. and 217 bird species including the 19 Albertine rift endemic species which include; Rwenzori turaco, handsome francolin, cinnamon chested bee eater, golden winged sunbird , blue headed sunbird, slender billed starling, barred long tailed cuckoo red throated alethe, Rwenzori double collared tiny, archers robin chat, strange weaver, etc. the plant species include ;hagenia tree, golden sedum sprawls, Ruwenzori black berry, wild celery, wild violets etc. Apart from hiking the mountain there are more attractions to see and activities to be done including the Bakonzo village walks ,bird watching, sightseeing, nature walks where you will experience the local culture and the way of life of the Bakonzo.
